I’ve been sick since Thursday lunchtime. Sicker than I’ve been for many many years. It has the usual cause of course, prolonged high stress followed by no stress. The cause of the stress was not work but rather my masters. I think that the reason it’s so severe this time is that this is hopefully the end of the masters and therefore this is a release of 6 years worth of stress. A complete draft was submitted at 01:05 last Monday morning and resubmitted again on Tuesday after it wasn’t received. Needless to say, I don’t have any feedback yet.
Apparently its in the queue.

Here are a few lessons I have learnt about managing stress and particularly the transition from a period of high stress to a period of low stress:
- The first step to recovery is to heal your body (relax and catch up on sleep).
- No matter how tempting it may be, don’t stay up untill all hours of the night doing things you wanted to do but were unable to do previously (like watching movies).
- No matter what the stakes, don’t do strenuous exercise (like hockey matches) until your body has fully recovered.
